Free laptop computers welcomed by students Print E-mail

The pilot project, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is in full swing in Nakhon Nayok; though there must be some concern as to how these computers can be powered. Many students do not have electricity at home and the idea that they can be powered by solar cells is admirable: however, I wonder how practical it can be?

Some social commentators might question the amount of money being spent on a project like this. As there are many different educational problem areas that need attention at this time, the money could be better spent on more worthy causes, for example improving the existing school buildings, more teaching resources and of course, more teachers.

It is the Thai teachers themselves that need to inform the government of the correct priorities for the allocation of funds, in order to ensure the fair distribution of cash to deserving projects. I would be interested to hear from any Thai teachers about their opinions and concerns on this matter.
